A small window

By Sean McSeveny On October 30, 2015 · 5 Comments · In Chesil Beach, Reports
The winds we have had over the past 24 hours, have been strong enough to create some rough sea conditions. It is not enough to really stir things up, but it is enough to make fishing Chesil very interesting today and this evening (Friday). However by tomorrow morning the light SE winds will have calmed [...]

Yamaga Blanks Early Plus 92XML lure rod review

By Sean McSeveny On October 29, 2015 · Add Comment · In Reviews, Rods
I came across the Yamaga Blanks Early Plus just after it was released in the spring. Dan Konig from Adventure Angler wrote an article for us on Bass fishing in Morocco Looking at the conditions he was fishing in made me think that the Early Plus would be an ideal rod for my rougher and heavier [...]

By Sean McSeveny On October 26, 2015 · 2 Comments · In Chesil Beach, Reports
I am sure a lot of you are interested to find out the results of this years Weymouth Angling Centre, Chesil Beach Cod Open competition. As I predicted on Friday, Chesil was not going to produce loads of Cod this weekend and the results proved that. 180 anglers fished the competition, with 19  of those [...]

We need a Westerly

By Sean McSeveny On October 23, 2015 · 1 Comment · In Chesil Beach, Reports
I would love to say that fishing this weekend is going to be brilliant, but I really don’t believe that it will be. We have very similar conditions on Saturday and Sunday, to those we experienced mid week. On Saturday we will see a stiff Westerly wind with rain that will drop off on Sunday. [...]

Porbeagle Shark landed at Chesil Cove

By Sean McSeveny On October 19, 2015 · 1 Comment · In Chesil Beach, Reports
A 2m long Porbeagle shark was landed in Chesil Cove yesterday by a commercial fisherman. The shark became entangled in nets that were only 300m from the shore. Divers had reported seeing a shark in the Cove and on the Adelaide recently. It is not known if this is the same shark. It is unfortunate [...]

Drift fishing with boat angler Allan Yates Be Prepared

By Allan Yates On October 17, 2015 · Add Comment · In Boat Fishing, Reports
Getting more and more requests from customers for lures and traces ready to fish out of the bag. I can understand why when you see some of the un-prepared anglers out on the charter boats missing so many drifts and lost fishing time because they hadn’t prepared rigs and lures for quick re-rigging when they [...]

Another weekend of North Easterly wind

By Sean McSeveny On October 16, 2015 · 1 Comment · In Chesil Beach, Reports
Looks like we are set for another weekend of North Easterly winds. Not great news if you are after Cod, but not bad for those looking to get some Bream or Plaice. The North East wind keeps the sea reasonably calm and allows you to get a decent cast. The major downside is that it [...]

Best laid plans

By Leo Toms On October 14, 2015 · 1 Comment · In Poole Harbour, Reports, The Solent
As a matter of habit I’m always looking at the weather patterns and tides to try and pinpoint the best places and times to fish and collect bait. It was on Sunday that I spoke to my mate Martin saying that if the unsettled weather continued Chesil would be on fire this weekend for bass [...]

Not Tuna but a great day out.

By Sean McSeveny On October 13, 2015 · 4 Comments · In Chesil Beach, Reports
I was supposed to be lure fishing for Tuna in Ancona in Italy over the weekend. Unfortunately due to the fallout from the hurricane that broke up over the Caribbean, the wind was too high for us to get out. Hopefully I am going to head over there in November. I was a bit depressed [...]

Will it be a Cod fest?

By Sean McSeveny On October 9, 2015 · 7 Comments · In Chesil Beach, Reports
Lots of Cod have been caught from Chesil this week, and I am sure that many of you have planned to come down and have a go for them over the weekend. The question is will it be worth it? I have fished all week and everyday has seen different conditions. I headed to Cogden [...]

Can a tide be too big?

By Sean McSeveny On October 5, 2015 · 5 Comments · In Chesil Beach, Reports
Are spring tides the best tides to fish? We are just coming off the back of a set of very big spring tides ,that have left me wondering if such big tides are that good for fishing. Don’t get me wrong, I have had a good week guiding and fishing and I have had a [...]

Squid fishing from Bournemouth Pier

By Leo Toms On October 1, 2015 · Add Comment · In Lure, Poole Harbour, Reports, Tips
I was recently invited out on a squid fishing trip by an old fishingtails pal Marlon and having never really specifically fished for squid before I thought it would be fun to try for a new species. I had heard that some good catches had been made in the last week with ten or fifteen squid [...]
