Boat report 30th June 2012

By Sean McSeveny On June 30, 2013 · Add Comment · In Boat Fishing
The good weather over the past week has ment that the charter fleet and private boats have been able to get out and find some great fish. The wreck fishing seems to have exploded with Bass starting to show on the wrecks as well as huge Pollock and a few Cod. Inshore the Shambles and [...]

Catch report & fishing forecast for Dorset including Chesil Beach, Portland & Weymouth

By Sean McSeveny On June 28, 2013 · 1 Comment · In Chesil Beach, Reports
I know there was a bit of a delay in getting the fishing forecast up today, but I was up at 5am this morning chasing Bass and I have only just got back at 1pm. It was a bit quiet and I would not normally have bothered getting up at that time for fishing over [...]

Catch report & fishing forecast for Dorset including Chesil Beach, Portland & Weymouth

By Sean McSeveny On June 26, 2013 · 2 Comments · In Chesil Beach, Reports
We might have lacked quantity in the early part of this month, but we are making up for it with quality now. Some of the fish that have been landed over the past week have been fantastic. Numerous double figure Bass and lots of decent sized Smoothound, some of them into double figures. Add to [...]

Catch report & fishing forecast for Dorset including Chesil Beach, Portland & Weymouth

I knew it would be good on Chesil for Bass this weekend, I just didn’t think I would be there to witness a great Bass being caught. My mate Paul managed this lovely Bass at just under 12lb caught on Ragworm and Peeler Crab. We had loads of other species including Dogfish, Pout, Wrasse and [...]

Bass fishing on Chesil Beach, when its at its best

By Sean McSeveny On June 24, 2013 · 11 Comments · In Bait, Guiding & fishing lessons
As a fishing guide in Dorset, I like to think that I know when the best times to fish are. Despite my over whelming urge to want to fish with lures all the time, I know that it is better to get out the smelly old bait when the conditions are right. Those times are [...]

Catch report & fishing forecast for Dorset including Chesil Beach, Portland & Weymouth

By Sean McSeveny On June 22, 2013 · 1 Comment · In Chesil Beach, Reports
What a difference a few hours can make! I started off on a guiding session yesterday morning in the hope that the May water had cleared enough to make the water clear enough for lure fishing. You can imagine my disappointment when I arrived at my first mark and the one that I thought would be the [...]

Catch report & fishing forecast for Dorset including Chesil Beach, Portland & Weymouth

By Sean McSeveny On June 20, 2013 · Add Comment · In Chesil Beach, Reports
Well the May water has almost cleared, once the large tides at the weekend have move dispersed the last of it, we should be back to good visibility again. Catch reports have been almost non-existant, with not so many people fishing the beach and even fewer catching. There have been the usual numbers of Dogfish [...]

Ultimate Fishing Adventures: Henry Gilbey

By Sean McSeveny On June 18, 2013 · 1 Comment · In Books, Reports, Reviews
When I heard that Henry Gilbey had produced a new book last year, I was determined to get my hands on one and see if it was as good as his others. As an added thought I decided it might be a good idea to review it and it would be nice to give one [...]

Catch report & fishing forecast for Dorset including Chesil Beach, Portland & Weymouth

By Sean McSeveny On June 17, 2013 · 2 Comments · In Chesil Beach, Reports
Whilst I have been busy at the Longleat Fishing show over the weekend, despite the weather some of my mates have been getting into the fish. My mate Paul had a Bass of just under 5lb and a 6lb Smoothound. Reports of other decent Smoothound have come through. It seems that the Portland end of [...]

Catch report & fishing forecast for Dorset including Chesil Beach, Portland & Weymouth

The fishing should be kicking in now. The summer species are slowly starting to arrive, with plenty of Smoothound, and even Bream and Gurnard making an appearance, but we are still a bit behind, with Mackerel and Bass not around in the numbers they were at this time last year. Fishing from Chesil beach is going [...]

Catch report & fishing forecast for Dorset including Chesil Beach, Portland & Weymouth

By Sean McSeveny On June 12, 2013 · Add Comment · In Chesil Beach, Reports
Forget fishing Chesil or the Solent for Smoothound. Just fish the storm drains behind Chesil that run into Portland Harbour. The heavily pregnant Smoothound became trapped in the storm defence drain near the Sailing academy. Several anglers were een trying to catch it before it was rescued by a team from the Weymouth Sealife centre. [...]

The Winner for June is Andy with a great Bass. This month I have a great prize for the winner. I have a signed copy of Henry Gilbey’s Ultimate Fishing Adventures. I will post a review of the book later this week as I got one for myself, but so far it has been hard [...]

Weymouth boat report 11th June 2012

By Sean McSeveny On June 11, 2013 · Add Comment · In Boat Fishing
The weekly report is not quite going according to plan, mainly due to the amount of work I have been putting in creating the videos that I will put up soon. I will try to get the reports back on track for next week. Boat fishing is certainly better than the shore fishing , with [...]

Catch report & fishing forecast for Dorset including Chesil Beach, Portland & Weymouth

what is May water? I would love to say that it was a great weekend of fishing for everyone, but I would be lying. I can’t think of a worse weekend since mid February. Not because it was so bad, but because it should have been good and it wasn’t.  The May water is really [...]

Catch report & fishing forecast for Dorset including Chesil Beach, Portland & Weymouth

Despite the May water, fishing has been reasonable Dorset. Even the Mackerel seem to be around in good numbers at the Portland end of the beach. Sam Ritson sent me his entry for Fish of the Month it clearly shows that he was able to catch Mackerel despite the amy water. I fished all day [...]

Catch report & fishing forecast for Dorset including Chesil Beach, Portland & Weymouth

By Sean McSeveny On June 5, 2013 · Add Comment · In Chesil Beach, Reports
The fishing is pretty unpredictable at the moment. The May water seems to be moving from West to East in very large pockets. Yesterday afternoon it cleared from the Chesil Cove area, but I could see it streaming into Portland Harbour through the entrances. THe Harbour has cleared a bit now, but Chesil is green [...]

Catch report & fishing forecast for Dorset including Chesil Beach, Portland & Weymouth

By Sean McSeveny On June 1, 2013 · 1 Comment · In Chesil Beach, Reports
What has happened to the fishing at Abbotsbury and West Bexington? I have had several emails asking where all the fish are down that end of Chesil.  Well May water is what has happend! The Mackerel are staying further offshore in the clearer water. The water down the Portland end of the beach is pretty [...]
