Looks like it could be a great day today, the sun is breaking through and conditions are almost perfect for fishing.
Wind forecast NE 15mph. Current wind is NE 10mph.
Sea conditions: Calm with Chesil almost clear of colour. Portland Bill, Kimmeridge and Portland Harbour still have a cloudy tinge to the water. Temperature 10.4*c Weymouth high water 7.06pm 2.29m high.
Chesil Beach forecast: Mackerel in good numbers all along the beach. Plenty of Pollock and a few Bass from Chesil Cove end. Beware that the beach at Abbotsbury is still netted so I would give there a wide berth. West Bexington is starting to produce some summer fish with Gurnard showing up with Plaice and Dabs and plenty of dogfish during the day. The large tides will limit the effective fishing time for the Plaice as they don’t like big tides. They will come on to the feed at slack water periods and when the tidal flow drops off. Night fishing is producing an unusual number of Small Eyed Ray this year. Charmouth will produce some nice Rays on an evening tide to Sandeel baits. Bigger tides suite the Smoothound that have been around in good numbers for a few weeks now. As always crab baits are best for these powerhouses.
Portland: Plenty of Pollock and Wrasse falling to lures. I managed my 500th fish on lures yesterday with a little Pollock.
So far it has been the most amazing year with more fish than I can ever remember catching, and almost all of them have come on lures. Going to try for Cod on lures on Tuesday. Try fishing Portland Bill at dusk 2 hours either side of high tide.
Boats: it looks like quite a few boats have got out this morning after the Turbot and Plaice on the Shambles. Some very good catches of Plaice being reported from several boats. Great conditions for Kayak fishing in Portland harbour and along the coastline.
