The beach has been on fire over the weekend. Plaice, Bream, Sole, Smoothound, Gurnard and Bass to name but a few of the species that were landed and that is even before I have heard about any of the Weymouth and Portland shore fishing festival results. The next few days should be great for more fantastic fishing.

Water Temperature: 17.7*c             Weymouth High Tide: 9.32pm, 2.31m

Wind: Hardly a breath of wind today

Sea Conditions:

Chesil Beach: Calm and most of the colour has dropped from the water

Portland: Calm and clear.

Portland Harbour: Calm and clear

Weymouth Bay: Calm with clear water.

Chesil Beach forecast: It looks like it will be a great day for just about everything today. Go West if you want Plaice and flat fish including Sole and Rays. Cogden has fished well for Sole on Black lug tipped with Ragworm. If you are looking for Bream then head towards the visitors centre on the Portland Beach Road. The Adelaide and landing craft are particular hot spots, but to be honest the whole section of the beach all the way to the Cove is fishing well. Plenty of Mackerel all along the beach and some nice Smoothound.

Portland: Lovely conditions to fish the Bill today. Float fished Ragworm for Wrasse, Mackerel strips ofr Pollock and garfish and lures for everything, especially soft plastic lures like Slug-go’s and Xlayers.

Portland Harbour: Another mark that is really on fire at the moment. Small Bass, Bream both Black and Gilthead, Mullet, Flounder Mackerel and Scad all in the same areas around Sandsfoot and along the Rodwell Trail to Ferrybridge and beyond to the sailing academy.

Weymouth Bay: Both the Stone Pier and the Pleasure Pier will produce fish today. Float fish Mackerel or Ragworm for Wrasse, Pollock Garfish and Mackerel. The Weymouth Juniors will be fishing there tonight.

Boat & Kayak fishing: I have seen some great reports from the Charter Fleet as well as private boats that have managed out this weekend. Some cracking Plaice from the Shambles and a real mixed bag of Bream, Smoothound, Tope and Gurnard. We are off on a boat trip tomorrow so don’t expect an update unless things change dramatically over night. The next 5 hour boat trip will be on Tuesday the 11th of September so if you want to join me then drop me an email to sean@fishingtails.co.uk The cost is £25 for the trip. Rods and Reels can be hired for £10 if you don’t have your own, but numbers are limited for the tackle.

I am hoping to get out on my Kayak this afternoon, as I have seen a lot of Bass moving between the yachts at Sandsfoot. I will let you know how I get on.

I have a few slots available in September for guiding and one to one sessions. These can be tailored to your requirements including mixed days of bait and lure fishing. Drop me an email for more details sean@fishingtails.co.uk
