We wake up to another blustery day on the South coast and sea conditions that are going to put a lot of popular marks out of action for today at least. However having looked at the wind forecast, I would say that there is a good chance of some good fishing from Chesil tomorrow afternoon. The wind is due to drop right back in the morning, giving enough time for the sea to calm down enough to allow fishing, but still have plenty of colour in the water.

Fish of the month or week competition! I am going to start running a fish of the month competition and if I can get a sponsor or two interested, I will run a weekly competition. I will release more details of the prizes in the next couple of days. The competition will be for what myself and the sponsor think is the best fish for that period. It may not be the largest fish, as all factors including location and tackle will be taken into account. The fish must have been caught from the waters of Dorset or Devon and have been caught during the period of the competition. You need to email me a picture and give details of where, when and how it was caught. To ensure your secret spots are kept secret I only need to know the rough location so get sending your pictures in now to fish@fishingtails.co.uk

Water Temperature: 9.2*c             Weymouth High Tide: 10.04pm, 2.05m

Wind: W 32mph

Sea Conditions:

Chesil Beach: Rough with waves of  2m and regular larger waves exceeding 3m. Although the sea has calmed a bit since yesterday there is a very large surf run off. It is likely that conditions will become rougher as the day progresses.

Portland: Very rough on the rock marks on the West of Portland, but Church Ope and other marks on the East will be fishable. The water has a lot of colour in it.

Portland Harbour: Wavelets with coloured water.

Weymouth Bay: small waves with slightly coloured water.

Chesil Beach forecast: Fish it at your own risk! It is rough and dangerous on the beach and is only going to get worse until much later. It is one of those days that you are better going tomorrow when it calms down a bit and the water is nice and coloured. You will have the chance of the odd Cod and a Bass or two.

Portland: Coloured water and rough conditions make good conditions for large Bull Huss. A large flank of Mackerel is one of their favourite baits. Make sure you use a rotten bottom to avoid losing a good fish. Fishing will be limited to the East side of the Island until conditions on the West calm down a bit.

Portland Harbour: A few Bass have been caught on lures in the harbour around Sandsfoot sailing club and beneath the Rodwell Trail. Flounders can be found in the same area.

Weymouth Bay: Preston Beach will make a safe and sheltered fishing spot today, as should the piers. The Stone Pier has thrown up some nice Pollock in the past couple of days. I also witnessed someone catching a few Garfish on float fished Mackerel strip.

Guiding: Due to the Bass fishing falling off I am only taking bookings for traditional bait fishing sessions for December. I will be targeting Cod, and Whiting from the beach and large Wrasse and Pollock from the shore. I am happy to fit in a few short Pollock and Wrasse lure sessions from the rocks, but these will be limited to 1/2 day or 2 to 3 hour sessions. These can be tailored to your requirements. Drop me an email for more details sean@fishingtails.co.uk
