Christmas Cod Fest

By Sean McSeveny On December 31, 2014 · Add Comment · In Chesil Beach, Reports
It was a very changeable week, which produced loads of Codling whenever the weather broke. But it quickly quietened down as soon as the weather was settled for more than 24 hours. Those lucky enough to get on the beach as soon as it was possible to do so, had a bumper time, with loads of Codling. I took my mate out on Christmas eve and he managed to get his first Codling, which was less then 40yds out.

The weather did break.

By Sean McSeveny On December 31, 2014 · Add Comment · In Chesil Beach, Reports
We have had a pretty windy weekend. but at least the wind dropped enough for me and a few hundred other anglers to get out and have a go on Chesil, and it was certainly well worth it. Between myself and my mate Paul, we managed 11 Codling and a few Whiting between us in about 3 hours. I will admit that Paul had more and bigger Codling than me, but he was using Cuttlefish and I have frozen Hermit and live Blow Lug. I have never used Cuttlefish before, but I think I will give it a go next time I fish.

Will the weather break?

By Sean McSeveny On December 31, 2014 · Add Comment · In Chesil Beach, Reports
I don’t know about you, but after missing out on a great days Cod fishing last weekend, I am desperate to get out this weekend. But will there be a window of opportunity? Everytime I look at the wind forecast it changes. One minute it looks good for this afternoon, then it doesn’t, next I [...]

Huge Chesil Cod

By Sean McSeveny On December 31, 2014 · Add Comment · In Chesil Beach, Reports
The beach will be fishable with care from early evening today, and should fish well tomorrow during the day. Once darkness hits tomorrow (Saturday) I think you will struggle to get through the Whiting and Pout. The conditions will also be good for Bass and I would expect to see a couple of Conger caught. Basically forget going Christmas shopping tomorrow and head for Chesil instead. I am fairly certain that the best bait tomorrow will be Peeler Crab and live Hermits

When November Ends – A Pike Fishing Review.

By Sean McSeveny On December 10, 2014 · Add Comment · In Freshwater Fishing, Reports
So November has passed, Christmas is fast approaching and the days of the advent calendar are numbered. Reflecting on the month, well it’s been a very good one especially since my time on the bank has been extremely limited. That said I managed seven sessions during the month of November and on each occasion I avoided the dreaded blank which is my only my measure of success for a fishing trip. Out of the seven sessions only two were full days, when I say “full days” I mean having the opportunity to fish from dark till dark and both of these full day sessions I wasn’t actually seriously fishing myself but trying to put a friend on to a good river pike. I’m delighted to report that both of these good friends succeeded in banking a river twenty pound pike and that I also had a couple myself for the month, however I did catch a rather special fish for me, but to learn more about that then you’ll have to read on.

A quite weekend, thank goodness for the Flounder

By Sean McSeveny On December 8, 2014 · Add Comment · In Chesil Beach, Reports
I am not sure if everyone was out Christmas shopping at the weekend, but the beach was a lot quieter than it has been recently. There was a few Codling caught, but they are certainly thinning out. That didn't stop Kevin Webb from catching a few. He also decided to try for a Garfish and wasn't disappointed.

The Star bait for Cod!

By Sean McSeveny On December 5, 2014 · 1 Comment · In Chesil Beach, Reports
I like to keep my fishing as simple as possible, but I am always open to suggestions when it comes to trying new baits, especially when those baits are seasonal. I had a pictured added by Sam Master to a recent Facebook post that I had put up. It is of two Starfish that he caught on Ragworm.

Size Matters

By Sean McSeveny On December 4, 2014 · 10 Comments · In Reports
Bass numbers are declining so what can be done to boost the species? A recent article in The Times reported on EU proposals to limit the number of sea bass caught in UK and European waters – the end goal being to maintain sustainable levels of the species which, as recent figures show, are currently [...]

Winter Whiting

By Sean McSeveny On December 1, 2014 · 2 Comments · In Chesil Beach, Reports
Whiting fishing has been pretty good over the weekend, and Chesil fished pretty much as I expected it to do, with the exception of the lack of Plaice. However I am going this morning to see if I can hunt a few down. What was in good supply were Whiting. To some the numbers were just too many, with most Cod baits
