It is too rough to fish Chesil this morning, but the wind is set to drop considerably this afternoon, which will create ideal conditions for Bass and Cod.DSC_0069

There are a lot of Codling off the beach, but most of them have been out of range of all but the better casters, but with a source of easy food close to the shore they will move in much closer. I mentioned last week that my friend was coming down for a week’s fishing with the aim of catching his first Codling. Well he easily achieved that over the weekend, with several Codling and a lot of Bream. 1378096_775159185863896_6980813914000592042_n

Sea Conditions:

Water temperature 17.4 °c.

Chesil Beach: Rough with coloured water

Portland: 3m waves and coloured

Portland Harbour: Wavelets with clear water

Weymouth Bay: Calm with clear water

Chesil Beach forecast: Unfishable os of 9am Monday morning. This will change by this afternoon, when the main target will be Cod and Bass. I am sure that we will still be able to target Bream and Gurnard, as both species are feeding on Lugworm. Forget going for Mackerel, as the water will be too coloured.

Portland: Conditions are good for Bass and Bull Huss, but the Wrasse do not like these conditions. Pollock are often put of with coloured water, but I would still expect to see some caught, especially at marks on the East side such as Church Ope Cove.

Portland Harbour: Good tides and a bit of a chop, should provide good reasonably sheltered fishing. It is possible to use lures in these conditions and that should give you a better chance of a Bass than bait at this time of year.

Weymouth Bay: Preston Beach will provide good shelter with the possibility of a Bass. There are plenty of Flounder and Dabs being caught on the beach. The piers are still fishing well , and should continue to do so for at least another month.

Guiding: I still have a few slots left between now and November, so if you are interested in lure or bait fishing over the next two most productive months of the year then drop me an email to [email protected]
