I can’t beleive it, November already! I am not letting that worry me too much as I know this is one of the best fishing months of the year. It certainly kicked up a storm yesterday evening and well into the early hours of this morning. Chesil is pretty close to unfishable at the moment due to the wave height and long surf run off. However I think that will die down pretty quickly to leave a dirty and fairly rough sea that just screams Cod. There have not been as many Cod as there was a couple of weeks ago, but the ones that are being landed seem to be from an older year class and therefore are larger fish. Most of them being around 7lb rather than the 3lb fish that we have been seeing. I have not heard of any monsters being landed this week, but today might be the day 🙂

Water Temperature: 12.9*c             Weymouth High Tide: 7.55pm, 2.06m

Wind: SW 28mph

Sea Conditions:

Chesil Beach: Rough, dirty and dangerous

Portland: Large swell of almost 2m and rough on the West side. Some shelter can be found on the East. The water is carrying a bit of colour.

Portland Harbour: Wavelets and clear water except at Ferrybridge where the water coming out the fleet is dirty.

Weymouth Bay: Clam with a little bit of colour in the water.

Chesil Beach forecast: If it becomes fishable then Cod, Dogfish, Pout and Whiting will be the main target species. Don’t forget to try a large bait in very close for that Bass that will be prowling about.

Portland: Pretty much a no go for most of the rock marks. Church Ope Cove will be a fairly sheltered option. The one downside is that it normally has quite a lot of weed pushed into it on a SW blow.

Portland Harbour: It is looking good for Bass, Mullet and Flounder around the harbour. Hamm beach is producing some very nice flounder to Ragworm. Sandsfoot Castle will be another area that will provide shelter with the possibility of a Bass and a nice Flounder.

Weymouth Bay: Preston Beach would be my venue of choice if I can’t get on to Chesil today. There is always the chance of a Cod from Preston, but it is more likely that you would get Whiting and Rays. The piers are both fishing well for smaller species and there have been a few Squid caught in the evenings.

Purbecks: Ringtead  Bay and Windspit often produce some very good fish during a strong South Westerly. Undulate, Spotted Ray, Bass and large Bull Huss all fall to Peeler Crab and Mackerel baits.

Poole: It is well known that Poole is famous for its lounder fishing and this year it seems will be no exception. Flounder fishing has kicked off in Poole Harbour. Peeler Crab and Ragworm on simple flowing traces seem to work best. Some nice catches of large Bass have been a common by catch, with fish up to 7lb.

Boat and Kayak fishing: I can not see much boat or Kayak fishing happening today as the wind will make it a bit too dangerous.

Guiding:  Due to changes in my schedule I do have a few dates for next week. On one of the days next week I will have a camera crew with me filming one of my guiding sessions. I am not sure at the moment which day that will be, but if you do not want to be involved in any of the filming, then it would be better not to book with me over the next few days. I have a couple of more sessions available in October mainly for Bass fishing but I might be persuaded to do a bait session for Cod or a late Plaice. I am taking bookings for both Bass and bait guiding sessions for November. Don’t miss out on the best months fishing. These can be tailored to your requirements including mixed days of bait and lure fishing. Drop me an email for more details [email protected]
