The tides are picking up from today and with a 1.75m high tide, these medium sized tides are perfect for fishing on Chesil Beach. These tides allow the fish to feed for longer periods and normally produce some nice Bream.

Water Temperature: 17*c             Weymouth High Tide: 5.22pm, 1.75m

Wind: S 12mph

Sea Conditions:

Chesil Beach: Calm but 1m swell and the odd larger wave. The water is clear

Portland: Calm with clear water 1m swell

Portland Harbour: Calm with clear water

Weymouth Bay: Calm with clear water..

Chesil Beach forecast: Medium size tides make for excellent fishing for all the summer species including Bream, Bass, Gurnard and Plaice. Plenty of Mackerel all the way along the beach. Smoothound are still around and this has been the best year for them that I can remember. Peeler Crab on a long flowing trace and a size 4/0 hook is one of the best methods. We have had a lot of Golden Grey Mullet caught from Cogden in the past week. Small strips of Mackerel have been the main bait.

Portland: Good news. The gill nets have been removed from the Bill. However they have been put into place half way along the West side of Portland and along Chesil Cove. I had a quick session at Church Ope Cove yesterday at Dusk. This produced a couple of School Bass to lures.

Portland Harbour: Lots of Mullet and a few small Bass around. Plenty of small Wrasse around the reefs at Sandsfoot Castle. You can also pick up Flounders from the sand all along the harbour.

Weymouth Bay: Stone Pier fished well yesterday, with the Weymouth juniors weighing in some nice fish including a 3lb Wrasse.

Boat & Kayak fishing: Most of Portland Harbour is open again. This has allowed me to fish some of my favourite marks on my new Kayak. The Southern entrance produced loads of Mackerel, Pollock, Garfish and three different species of Wrasse. The next boat trip that I am organising is on Tuesday the 21st of August. It will be a morning start for a 5 hour trip on the local banks and reefs for only £25. Email me if you are interested
