Where are the bait fish?

By Sean McSeveny On April 29, 2016 · 4 Comments · In Chesil Beach, Reports
Normally by this time of year, I would expect to see quite a bit of bait fish activity around the harbours. Especially around places like Ferrybridge in Portland Harbour. So far I have seen no sign of any bait fish or small sandeels. This has me a bit worried as I normally start my fishing [...]

Wind, Rain and a PB Perch.

By Irene Hodgson On April 27, 2016 · 1 Comment · In Freshwater Fishing, Kayak Fishing, Lure, Lure Fishing
With no other subject talked about so much on the fishing pages and sites, it pains for me to start this article talking about it…yes you got it, the weather, it literally has had kayak fishing to a standstill for weeks now, with only a few of us managing to grab a hour here and [...]

Not much to report

By Sean McSeveny On April 26, 2016 · Add Comment · In Chesil Beach, Reports
The reason for the lack of a report and forecast yesterday was down to the fact that I had very little to report. Even after waiting an extra day to see what reports might come in, it is still pretty sparse. This is to be expected at this time of year, but I am happy [...]

The right place at the right time

By Sean McSeveny On April 22, 2016 · Add Comment · In Chesil Beach, Reports
Do you ever get the feeling that you have chosen the wrong mark, or time to go fishing. I have been feeling that a lot so far this year. It is still early and I have not had too many shore sessions yet, but on most of those occasions I have never been that confident [...]

Rays in Confidence

By Leo Toms On April 20, 2016 · Add Comment · In Poole Harbour, Reports
After the the last few weeks of no fish my confidence was at an all time low. I hoped a trip to to Southbourne might help and although I was dubious I set plans to fish on Saturday  night at  a mark a little further towards Boscombe pier than my usual spot. With Sandeel and [...]

Plymouth fishing report for April

By Paul Bassman Gordon On April 19, 2016 · Add Comment · In Plymouth, Reports
Well apologies for the late report fishing fans!, a bit of a staggered report covering the dreaded March and hope filled April but let’s roll with it. March is always a tricky one on the fishing calendar but we got through it relatively well with the seasonal treat of those early aggressive plaice showing late [...]

A mixed bag

By Sean McSeveny On April 18, 2016 · 3 Comments · In Chesil Beach, Reports
Chesil was not really the place to be this weekend, except for a very few anglers that did well. But for those anglers it was well worth the trip. Fishing Tails photographer Gavin, asked me to join him for a Plaice session yesterday. After asking around and reading a number of reports, I was less [...]

The traditional fisherman

By Dan Rogers On April 14, 2016 · Add Comment · In Fishing Abroad
So I’m the traditional Welsh Coracle Fisherman who was lucky enough to be part of the BBC 2 series Earth’s Wildest Water’s The Big Fish.  A Coracle is a small rudderless bowl shaped boat which is light enough to carry and maneuverable enough to get where traditional rod and line anglers can’t reach either from the shore [...]

More to fishing than just catching

By Leo Toms On April 13, 2016 · 1 Comment · In Poole Harbour, Reports
What a start I have had to the year: Some of the best bass sessions I’ve known in many years during January. Some cracking ray fishing through February and into early March. I really thought I was on for a cracking year then it all ground to an abrupt halt. On my second session at [...]

My favourite Bass flies

By Chris Silverthorne On April 12, 2016 · 6 Comments · In Lure Fishing, Reports
With the UK Saltwater fly season fast approaching many enthusiasts thoughts will be turning to what flies to fill their boxes with for the coming season. ‘What fly to use’ is also the first question many newcomers to the sport want to know after ‘What Rod’ and ‘What line’. Many Anglers have a favourite pattern [...]

The difficulties of fishing Chesil

By Sean McSeveny On April 11, 2016 · 5 Comments · In Chesil Beach, Reports
Lots of anglers hear great reports of large catches, or big fish being caught on Chesil, then get very disgruntled when they end up blanking or having a poor day. That my fellow anglers is fishing for you. Chesil is probably the most over rated beach in the UK. Don’t get me wrong, if you [...]

The Mullet are back

By Sean McSeveny On April 8, 2016 · 2 Comments · In Chesil Beach, Reports
Great news if like me you are a Mullet lover. I had a wander around Weymouth harbour yesterday and I was delighted to see hundreds of Mullet shoaling up. As most of them are hanging around the sluice gates, I am guessing that they are Thin Lipped Mullet. For those of you that are interested [...]

What can I catch from the beach in April

By Sean McSeveny On April 1, 2016 · 2 Comments · In Chesil Beach, Reports
April is upon us already and it looks like a nice start to it, with some reasonable conditions forecast for the weekend. It is just as well, as it is the Weymouth Angling Centre Flat Fish open on Chesil Beach. I certainly hope that the water coulour improves by Sunday, as I have never known [...]
