Despite some good conditions there have not been a lot of people on the beach for most of this week, so catch reports are pretty sketchy. The reports from the few that have braved the elements say that not a lot has been caught. A few Whiting and the normal Dogfish and Pout, but apart from a couple of Cod nothing of note has been landed.
Fishing on Chesil today is pretty much out of the question unless you want to spend most of the time right by the surf line holding your rod in the air. However tomorrow will be a different story all together. The wind is forecast to drop off to a stiff breeze leaving coloured water, making conditions ideal for Cod. The same can not be said for Bass. The water temperature has dropped by almost a full degree, which will push the bass into the deeper water.
Water Temperature: 10.1*c Weymouth High Tide: 12.00pm, 1.75m
Wind: NW 34mph gusting 46mph
Sea Conditions:
Chesil Beach: Rough with waves of at least 2m and coloured water.
Portland: Rough with a large swell. The water is coloured
Portland Harbour: Small chop with coloured water.
Weymouth Bay: Small chop with coloured water.
Chesil Beach forecast: The beach is fishable but only just and extreme care would be needed to fish it. To be honest it is so uncomfortable and dangerous, I would not recommend to anyone that they fish it.
Portland: Fishing is possible from the East side of the Island. Church Ope Cove will offer shelter and the chance of some Wrasse during the day and the possibility of Pollock and Bull Huss in the evening.
Portland Harbour: With fairly coloured water your fishing in the harbour is going to be limited to the odd Flounder and maybe a bonus small Bass.
Weymouth Bay: Preston Beach will provide a good bit of shelter from the wind and should see plenty of Whiting. I have heard of some really good catches of Whiting coming from both piers, with fish up to 3lb being landed. You never know what you will get from the piers, this is my top mark for the day.
Guiding: Due to the Bass fishing falling off I am only taking bookings for traditional bait fishing sessions for December. I will be targeting Cod, and Whiting from the beach and large Wrasse and Pollock from the shore. I am happy to fit in a few short Pollock and Wrasse lure sessions from the rocks, but these will be limited to 1/2 day or 2 to 3 hour sessions. These can be tailored to your requirements.
