Just had a look at Chesil and I am glad to say that with care it is fishable. Nice bit of surf running that will hold some nice Bass. However be very aware of the undertow it can be deadly. It is also pretty good at burying all your gear so make sure you keep your line tight to avoid losing your rigs. If you are after Mackerel off the beach then forget it. It is too rough and coloured for the Mackerel.
Wind forecast SW 16mph dropping of to 8mph this evening
Water Temperature: 14.1*c Weymouth High Tide: 6.32pm, 1.9m
Sea Conditions:
Chesil Beach: Rough and coloured with waves in excess of 2m a lot of weed in Chesil Cove with the odd raft along the length of the beach
Portland Bill: Rough and Coloured on the West side but not so rough on the East side, but still pretty coloured with a bit of weed especially in the bays.
Portland Harbour: Wavelets and surprisingly clear except around Ferrybridge where the Fleet runs into the harbou
Weymouth Bay: Wavelets with good water clarity.
Chesil Beach forecast: It has to be good for a Bass. Best bait will be Peeler Crab, but big Mackerel and Squid baits will also be good. There will be plenty of Dogfish and Pout day and night with the water being so coloured. I have noticed that the sea temperature has risen by more then half a degree. This is sure to bring the summer species in over the next week.
Portland: It will be too coloured for Wrasse fishing but you might be able to tempt a Bass or Pollock out. If you are brave enough to try a mark on the West side such as Blacknor then you could rewarded with a nice Bull Huss or Bass. This will require heavy weight tactics with 30lb mainline and rotten bottoms a must, but use a large fish bait and you could land a double.
Portland Harbour: I see that the harbour is busy already with no space left to fish at Ferrybridge, though the windsurfers do not seem to be in as large numbers today making fishing possible on Hamm Beach. Nice Flounder and Thornback coming from that mark.
Weymouth Bay: Preston is pretty flat today, but a few guys took advantage of the conditions yesterday and once again Paul Black was into Bass. Not as big as his almost 9lb beast of last week, but still nice to catch some Bass. He landed them on fresh Peeler Crab. I had a go along the Stone Pier yesterday and have to report it was pretty quite with very little caught by anyone, especially me.
Boat and Kayak fishing. Nice day for some Kayak fishing and the opportunity to get out in a small boat within the confines of Portland Harbour. Top mark today will be the Hood entrance and the 6 knot marker buoy off the entrance to Ferrybridge. Expect to see Pollock, Bass, Mackerel, Plaice, Flounder and Thornback with the odd Smoothound thrown in.
I have had a couple of emails from boat users that I have tried to reply to. Unfortunately for some reason every time I send an email to a .org.uk address it gets bounced back. If you guys resend me an email from another account then hopefully I will be able to respond to you.
