Finally I am able to release some of my exciting news! I have been selected to represent the UK in a fishing programme that will be shown in 133 countries around the world. I will be fishing on home turf then travelling to several other destinations to fish with other anglers from around the World. To say I am pleased and excited is an understatement. I am also in the contract stages with a very popular TV series to take part in some more TV work and run a number of high profile courses for them.

Water Temperature: 14.3*c             Weymouth High Tide: 2.46pm, 1.68m

Wind: NE 18mph

Sea Conditions:

Chesil Beach: Calm but with a small swell. The water is clear.

Portland: Calm and clear water

Portland Harbour: Wavelets and clear water.

Weymouth Bay: Small waves that will turn into a larger surf as the wind picks up this afternoon. Water has some colour to it.

Chesil Beach forecast: Although it will be fairly windy later, it will be from the NE making most of Chesil fairly sheltered. Most of the Plaice that have been down at West Bexington and Cogden since March have now moved off and further East, with quite a few nice fish showing from the middle and Portland end of Chesil. However there are plenty of Dabs and Cod still down the Western end of the beach. As with Cod fishing anywhere along the beach, the bigger the bait the better. Lugworm and Peeler or Hermit Crab will give you a much better chance of a Cod than anything else. Use single hook size 4/0 or 5/0 rigs either as a pulley rig or long up and over rigs, but make sure they are clipped down to get the maximum distance.

If you are fishing the Portland and Weymouth end of the beach you could catch just about anything. Choose your species and fish for it. If you want Bream, Gurnard, Trigger and Plaice, then choose smaller hooks like a size 1 or 1/0 and use either Peeler if you are feeling rich or Ragworm tipped with Squid. Float fished Mackerel strip will catch you Garfish and if you are lucky you might get a Mullet or two on the same rig.

Portland: Wrasse. Pollock, Garefish, Mackerel and Bass all coming to lures and Mackerel strips fished on a float. If you fancy a decent sized Conger then a night session at Blacknor or Chine may produce one. Church Ope Cove should produce Pollock, Bull Huss, Dogfish, Pout and Bass from Dusk onwards.

Portland Harbour: With smaller tides the harbour does not seem to fish as well. You may still get the odd Flounder and Bass but it would not by my first choice for a few days.

Weymouth Bay: Stone and Pleasure Pier will produce some nice fish and you never know what it will throw up. Garfish, Pollock, Mackerel and Bass plus Flounder and Wrasse. The water inside the harbour is too dirty for any Mullet fishing. With a bit of surf on the beach it might well be worth trying for a Bass with a large bait. Just cast it no more than 30yds out.

Guiding:  A rare chance of a guiding session on Sunday of this weekend have come up.. I have a couple of more sessions available in October mainly for Bass fishing but I might be persuaded to do a bait session for Cod or a late Plaice. As I mentioned earlier there will be a very few Cod or bait fishing days in October and will be based around what I believe are the best tides. I am taking bookings for both Bass and bait guiding sessions for November. Don’t miss out on the best months fishing. These can be tailored to your requirements including mixed days of bait and lure fishing. Drop me an email for more details [email protected]
