Catch report & fishing forecast for Dorset including Chesil Beach, Portland & Weymouth
The fishing was pretty much killed by the May water over the weekend. It was not too bad down te Portland end of the beach on saturday. My mate Paul got out for af ew hours and had a short but hectic session. landing a couple of Bass, some Smoothound a Ray and even a small Bream. I went to the same mark yesterday only to be greeted with horrible greeny brown water, that just killed the fishing. All I saw was one guy bring in a couple of mackerel. Leo and his 5 mates from Poole fished Ferrybridge for 8 hours and only managed 2 Mackerel, 1 Herring and this little pup between them.
Reports from the Western end were pretty much the same .
Sea Conditions:
Water temperature 10.7*c.
Chesil Beach: Calm . The water is pretty coloured with May water all along the beach now.
Portland: calm with coloured water.
Portland Harbour: Wavelets and clear.
Weymouth Bay: Calm and clear.
Chesil Beach forecast: Don’t expect too many Mackerel to get caught in the murky conditions. Rays and Smoothound seem less effected by the May water. Night tides are producing Pout and Dogfish as usual.
Portland: Although the visibility is not great the Wrasse are still feeding happily. No so for the Pollock, they seem to have moved off as well. I will have a go down there this evening to see if there are any around dusk.
Portland Harbour: I was amazed to see so many people fishing in amongst the wind surfers and kites along Hamm beach at the weekend. Despite the windsurfer traffic they did manage some School Bass ad Flounders on Ragworm.
Weymouth Bay: This area has not been so badly effected by the may water yet. No great reports of anything special from there but the Stone Pier continues to produce lots of different species.

Not good I am afraid Mike.
Due to low temperatures last month the May water is now June water. Mackerel are thin on the ground and the poor clarity means they don’t see the feathers/lures as well if they do venture into the algae thick waters.
May Water is an algae that blooms this time of year. It can build up on your line and tow your lead. I would say head on down but stick to the Portland end of Chesil as the waters deeper and slightly less algae. I fished last weekend with success.
