Just as predicted there was some nice Cod landed from Chesil Beach yesterday. The best I heard of was a Cod of just over 14lb that fell to Lug and Squid. I know that there have been lots of Whiting being caught all along the beach, with some nice sized fish up to 3lb. If you target Whiting with a light rod such as a Carp rod or light surf rod you can have a lot of fun. Scale down to size 1 hooks baited with Ragworm and tipped with Squid and you can be busy all session.

Water Temperature: 10.2*c             Weymouth High Tide: 2.25pm, 1.76m

Wind: W 24mph gusting 34mph

Sea Conditions:

Chesil Beach: The sea is starting to pick up again with waves starting to reach 2m, the water is coloured.

Portland: Fairly large swell and getting rougher on the West side. The water is coloured

Portland Harbour: Small chop with almost clear water.

Weymouth Bay: Small chop with coloured water.

Chesil Beach forecast: Conditions are going to be a little bit difficult today, especially for those that are not great casters. As it is not rough enough to bring the fish in close, you need to be hitting a good 80yds with bait, which is not that easy when the wind is 24mph straight in your face. Abbotsbury, West Bexington and Cogden certainly seem to be fishing better than the Portland end of the beach.

Portland: Fishing is possible from the East side of the Island. Church Ope Cove will offer shelter and the chance of some Wrasse during the day and the possibility of Pollock and Bull Huss in the evening. Try a lure fishing session at dusk at Portland Bill for the chance of a nice Pollock

Portland Harbour: There are a few small school Bass hanging around Ferrybridge, but not a lot else with the exception of a couple of Flounders. As the tides build up during the week, I hope to see the fishing in the harbour improve.

Weymouth Bay: Preston Beach will provide a good bit of shelter from the wind and should see plenty of Whiting. The Piers have fished really well over the past few days and I know that someone landed an 8lb Cod from the Pleasure Pier.

Guiding: Due to the Bass fishing falling off I am only taking bookings for traditional bait fishing sessions for December. I will be targeting Cod, and Whiting from the beach and large Wrasse and Pollock from the shore. I am happy to fit in a few short Pollock and Wrasse lure sessions from the rocks, but these will be limited to 1/2 day or 2 to 3 hour sessions. These can be tailored to your requirements.
