Plenty of decent fish caught over the weekend. One of my friends had a great session at Abbotsbury with several Bass up to 6lb and some large Smoothounds. Peeler Crab was the most successful bait for him, but he did get the largest Bass on a Mackerel head.

Water Temperature: 16.3*c             Weymouth High Tide: 10.32pm, 2.17m

Wind: SW 12mph increasing to 20mph this afternoon.

Sea Conditions:

Chesil Beach: Small waves with a 1m swell. This is likely to increase from mid afternoon, water has a bit of colour in it.

Portland: 1m waves. Water is lightly coloured

Portland Harbour: Calm. Water is clear

Weymouth Bay: Calm with the water clear.

Chesil Beach forecast: The beach is certainly fishing better during the day at the moment. Night time sessions are inundated with Dogfish and Pout. Daylight sessions from West Bexington, Abbotsbury and Cogden have been producing Dabs, Plaice and Gurnard, with Smoothound and Bass amongst them. Further to the East around Ferrybridge and Chesil Cove Bream have been making a regular appearance. I will be heading down to Ferrybridge this afternoon with my Sister and Brother in law for a quick Mackerel session for the BBQ later.

Portland: Hopefully the water will be clearer today which will improve the Wrasse fishing. Garfish and Pollock have been caught in nice numbers over the weekend. They have been caught on Mackerel strips and lures.

Portland Harbour: Wrasse and small Pollock are being caught around Ferrybridge. Mullet are plentiful around Sandsfoot Castle.

Weymouth Bay: Lots of different species coming from the Stone Pier, but nothing of any great size. The harbour is full of Mullet, both thick lipped and thin. Bread or cheese paste for the Thick lips and a small Mepp with a size 4 or 6 hook and a small piece of Ragworm.

Boat & Kayak fishing: Not great boat conditions again today, but some of the Charter fleet will be out. I am hoping to get a Kayak at some time this summer and take advantage of some great marks within Portland Harbour. The harbour restrictions should be lifted on Monday allowing access to some of my favourite small boat marks like the Hood.

Olympic Update: Yesterday was very busy in the centre of Weymouth as thousands of people turned up to watch the Finn and Star class finals. It should be a lot quitter again today. Plenty of parking at Ferrybridge and Portland Bill.
